Principal Sports Physiotherapist
Mr. Balaji is a seasoned sports physiotherapist with over a decade of experience, currently serving as the Vice President of the Sports Medicine Association Singapore (SMAS). A graduate with Honours in BSc Physiotherapy from Trinity College Dublin, he is dedicated to advancing sports medicine and physiotherapy in Singapore. His experience includes serving as the Head Physiotherapist for the Singapore 15s Rugby Team and the National Rugby Academy, where he worked with elite athletes to help them achieve peak performance. At Heartland Rehab, Mr. Balaji specializes in treating musculoskeletal injuries, chronic conditions, neurological impairments, and sports-related injuries. He has a particular focus on knee injuries and nerve-related issues. Using advanced techniques such as tailored ACL operative and non-operative rehabilitation protocols, shockwave therapy, blood flow restriction training, and force plate technology assessments, he delivers personalized and effective recovery plans for his clients. Mr. Balaji takes a holistic and multidisciplinary approach, often collaborating with sports medicine doctors and other specialists to ensure comprehensive care. He is also a passionate educator, teaching pitchside medical courses for World Rugby and leading dry-needling programmes for Global Education for Manual Therapists (GEMt) in Singapore. Known for his approachable and client-centered style, Mr. Balaji integrates biomechanical correction and evidence-based strength and conditioning into his treatment plans. This ensures clients not only recover but also return to their activities stronger and more resilient. His dedication has been recognized with numerous Service Quality awards, reflecting his commitment to exceptional care. Outside of work, Mr. Balaji stays active through weightlifting and enjoys quality time with his family, including his three children. Gareth graduated from the Trinity College of Dublin (Honors) programme and started his career in NTFGH. Working at an acute hospital, he has vast working experience, from musculoskeletal physiotherapy care to the intensive care unit. He believes in hands-on treatments such as movement with mobilisation, myofascial release techniques, trigger point dry needling, and spinal mobilisation techniques. It is equally important to him that his clients understand their condition better and have control over their recovery. As an athlete who used to represent his school in badminton and sprints, his childhood dream is to provide physiotherapy to young athletes, helping to preserve and optimise their physical and mental well-being throughout their sporting careers. Outside of work, Gareth enjoys running, cycling, and playing badminton.
